Approximately 30-40 lakh Muslims from around 150 countries including Bangladesh joined the World Ijtema this year. World Ijtema is the second largest congregation of Muslims. The 57th World Ijtema was held on the banks of Turag River in Tongir near Dhaka. The World Ijtema is being held in a huge open field of 160 acres. As it is winter here in Bangladesh, the pilgrims stay under tents for 3 days and nights and pray to the almighty despite the winter nights. Pilgrims hang tents to protect themselves from the cold at night and the heat of the sun during the day.
